Hello ! β September is almost here π±. As school starts again, with the new classmates, teachers, and location, I can witness how adaptability is critical for our 3 kids. This is the same in business, with the challenge of staying relevant in today's rapidly evolving business environment. It requires adapting quickly and anticipating changes to ensure that our ideas and strategies remain effective. Unfortunately, many corporate teams and executives I coach lack an established framework for assessing future risks and implementing solutions. So today, I will show you how to incorporate the future into your thinking process better. This approach will help you keep your business and strategy relevant in our fast-moving world. β "The measure of intelligence is the ability to change." Albert Einstein β Get comfortable for your 5 minutes of sparks to hack. β β¨ Sparkβ β 3 dimensions to assess to future proof for the futureβ To improve a strategy or business, I like to use these 3 lenses: Sustainability, Adaptability, and Scalability. My SAS framework . β S - Sustainability: How could we operate in an environmentally, socially, and economically responsible manner over the long term? The goal is to progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). A- Adaptability: How could we adjust to changes of the external environment? S - Scalability: How could we grow and expand without being hindered by our structure or available resources? Today, we'll focus on adaptability. β β Definition and misconceptionβ Adaptability is the ability of a strategy or a business (or a person) to anticipate and adapt to external changes, such as markets or regulations. (As a yogi, I see adaptability as thisπ) β Many believe adaptability is purely reactive, while it requires proactive planning and foresight (and yoga practices π , I can not do this posture yet ...). β "Change is inevitable, but growth is intentional." β Glenda Cloud β β β¨ Hackβ It is easier to adapt quickly when you already factor in the future in your work. Here is how you can incorporate more future thinking into your work. β β Read and listen about the future.β The intention is to curate what you read and listen to. Less Netflix, more Futuristix π. β Next on my book list is The Coming Wave by Mustafa Suleyman, co-founder of DeepMind. For a focus on health, the Medical Futurist Institute has a fabulous newsletter and LinkedIn feeds. β β Immerse yourself in the future - BACKCASTINGβ Backcasting is an approach to projecting future reality. Here are the steps :
β The best way to predict your future is to create it.
Abraham Lincoln
β The benefit? You have to dream before your dreams come true! In the past years, we used it at Bambooster with diverse corporate life sciences clients both in a virtual and face-to-face setup.
β My recommendation is to immerse yourself and your team in the future at least once a year. I love this exercise; it is fun, engaging, and impactful. It is ideal for designing your 2025 strategy. β β Systematically assess adaptabilityβ Here is the simple checklist I always use to redesign the adaptability. I use the 10 boxes of the 3C Business model canvas (if you haven't used it yet, have a look here) and ask the teams questions about each box. Here are some examples. β
It could help you whether you work on launching a complex personalized cancer treatment in lymphoma, the go-to-market strategy of an AI decision support tool for surgeons, or the 2 years innovation strategy for your organization. β β Make changing your mind easyβ Last but not least, to increase adaptability, you need to be able to change your mind. And adapt your strategy or product accordingly. This is where agile comes in. The goal of agile and scrum, in particular scrum (I am a scrum master π), is to reduce the cost of change with small iterations (aka sprint) where each time, you have to "test" if your idea is relevant.
Scrum makes change affordable.β Ken Schwaber (Co-creator of Scrum) β For example, for 18 months now, I have run agile in health training and set up agile teams on EU HTA (a new regulation in Europe where a unique Health Technology Assessment will be submitted at the European level on top of 27 local dossiers π ). Put in place in January 2025, it will have many implications for teams' processes, resources, and roles. It's a perfect place to adapt and implement agile practices. β That's it for today. Enjoy the week end ! See you in two weeks. Keep the spark alive πͺπͺ. β Hit reply to let me know if you liked this edition or if you tried these tips. I respond to every person who writes to me!). |

Hello! I took my first training on generative AI precisely 2 years ago, and it is time to reflect. Since then, Iβve developed my own way to make generative AI fit into my work and life as a non-techie. Now I see it is the right approach. I have the chance to coach each week 2 to 3 leaders in health care to see how they or their team use generative AI. The biggest mistake Iβm seeing today is treating generative AI like a superhero tool instead of what it truly isβa team. Itβs what I teach in...
